El Dorado Main Street works with a variety of partners.  Each one of these partners are independent organizations with a specific mission, collaborating together to enhance our community!

City of El Dorado

El Dorado is a city and county seat of Butler County, Kansas, United States. It is situated along the Walnut River in the central part of Butler County and located in south-central Kansas. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 12,870.

El Dorado Chamber of Commerce

The El Dorado Chamber of Commerce operates as a non-profit membership organization.

We provide support to our members in the following ways:

Coutts Museum of Art

The Coutts Museum of Art is a unique regional destination museum and historic gathering place for people to experience the arts through significant and engaging exhibitions, innovative educational efforts, and entertaining programs. The Coutts Museum of Art is located in El Dorado in an historic, three-floor museum.

The Museum’s collection boasts more than 1,500 pieces of art, including: the Makk family, Frederic Remington, Prairie Printmakers, and many local Kansas artists such as Bill Walton. 

In addition to displaying its permanent collection, local artists are given the opportunity to schedule an exhibition of their works or a group exhibition. These rotating exhibits provide artists the opportunity to interact with local community members they may not have had the opportunity to meet, and offers the general public the opportunity to come and learn about art and artists, and interact with members of the community.

Kansas Oil Museum

The Mission of the Butler County Historical Society Home of the Kansas Oil Museum is to preserve and interpret the history and culture of the people of Butler County. This will be accomplished by means of collections, exhibits, educational programs, special events and research capabilities.

The Museum’s purpose is to operate an open-air museum, with galleries and exhibits to depict Butler County’s history during the late 1850s through the late 1940s.

Primary focus on farming, ranching and petroleum industry. 100 years of history on 10 acres.

Butler Community College

Butler Community College is a public, two-year, co-educational institution located in El Dorado, Kansas. Established in 1927 as El Dorado Junior College, Butler now stands as the second largest community college in Kansas and the sixth largest educational institution in the state. That means, annually, more than 13,000 students ranging in age from sophomores and juniors in high school to grandparents seeking a new career, enjoy and benefit from our small classes and nurturing environment.

Butler students have access to more than 90 different academic programs across 24 learning sites which includes numerous high schools in the area. 

Life outside of the classroom is exciting too! Butler’s excellent athletic programs include soccer, softball, baseball, basketball, spirit squad, cross county, track and field, volleyball and a five-time national champion football team. Butler is a member of the Jayhawk Conference, NJCAA Region VI.
